About

April 26th, 2009

The Eskimo Project was born one summers evening in 2004, plenty of gas’n air, plenty of pethidine, the ‘Maternity Ward’ a garage somewhere in Ashford, the incubator a Roland VS1680 and the child? Well, lets just say she’s a true child of the digital age.

What began as a one off, once only recording session – a one night stand so to speak, designed to capture a collection of songs acoustically, has now, somehow evolved into the completed album, ‘Degrees of Happiness’ which has itself spawned the Eskimo Project website. Our latest newborn is proving to be a difficult child, suffering from Attention deficit disorder and Tourette’s syndrome, but we love her all the same.

The family so far consists of Paul – music, instruments and vocals, Phil – Production and Engineering, Smiley – Drums and Percussion, and an assortment of doting Uncles – James, Neil, Steve and Adam who have given up their valuable time and energy to help steer our little one through the growing pains of early childhood.

So together, all we’re really doing is riding one huge learning curve, keeping things simple and constantly looking out for new and interesting ways of defying conventional wisdom.

And what of the digital child? Well, she’s walking now and has just strung her guitar in open ‘C’ and is determined to do things a little differently this time around……….

……………..Well two years have past and it’s time to ask ourselves was that tuning ‘open C’ or ‘open Sea’? We have to ask because what began as a simple musical diversion, a musical adventure for want of a better phrase has somehow evolved into the vibrant beating heart of the second album that resonates with a delightful feeling of summer ‘n surf and true to his word the now digital adolescent has gone and penned every tune in open Sea…

Entitled ‘Once around the Sun’ Eskimo Project’s second album was recorded in the heart of the Igloo and boasts a fine selection of eleven songs ranging from the delicate and introspective ‘Rumbled’ to the unashamed burst of summer that is the first single ‘Hydrogen bomb’. This new found confidence has finally allowed Pablo to be coaxed from the Ice to perform a memorable gig in December when the legend of the Phoenix choir was born: a sold out audience sang their hearts out so impressively that the recording has now made its way onto the final cut of album.

Reaction to the second album has been so positive that we’ve already signed a worldwide digital download deal with Believe Digital meaning the first single ‘Hydrogen bomb’ will be available at the click of a mouse from the 18th May 2009. Tracks from the album have already been played on BBC Radio 6 and Paul has played a number of live sessions, the most memorable of which was a trip to South City Radio where an hour long show hosted by the legendary Patrick Lyons just flew by. With interviews and live sessions on stations from Esher to Edinburgh the reaction has been great and bodes well for the album release in September.

It is amazing to think that from those first tentative steps we’ve almost reached full ramming speed and with talk of a tours, live streaming webcasts and even a mini album to follow the release of ‘Once around the sun’ its clear to see the child is a child no more and from now on we firmly believe that just about any thing is possible…
